MIT is developing that has such huge implications on the heath of humanity that pharmaceutical companies and the rest of the health care industry are eager to patent it so it doesn't see the light of day.the article. read the white paper. more from MIT.Researchers at MIT have started testing an antiviral drug that broadly targets all viruses that create double stranded RNA. It will kill all viruses and make viral diseases a thing of the past. The drug is not a vaccine and doesn't protect against future infections. But, it is very useful curing someone already infected and could be administered much like penicillin, which was a major medical breakthrough in itself. Think of all the viral diseases that would no longer be lethal... Hepatitis C, HIV, Ebola, Smallpox... and the non-lethal like Herpes. DRACO is a cool acronym in a project called PANACEA, another cool acronym! read
The following is a letter sent to my Representative, Senators, and the President (Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, and Obama). It simply states the US should not attack Iran over this nuclear crisis and the US should not be swayed by the importunities of Israel.
I urge you to not go to war/conflict with Iran, no matter how motivated our leaders in D.C. are. Unless there is world wide agreement (by the UN) on military action in Iran, the US should not be performing any more unilateral preemptive attacks. There are many other freedom loving countries around the world that can play the hero.If there is a response, it will be posted... Although, there might be a delay since sleep is a rare thing for parents when it comes to newborns... Israel (Netanyahu, Peres, etc...) will do it's best to pull the US into war with Iran. That is not our conflict. So, please disregard any pledges or oaths you have taken in regards to Israel and do not bend to the warmongers in the region. There is no true urgency and sanctions will be effective. Do not listen to the lobbyists. My wife and I have recently had our first child, which makes it even more important we change this war like mindset in our leadership. My son deserves a better world and we should do our best to make it a peaceful one... Let's start here at home. The US has been in far too many illegitimate military conflicts. Please look towards the future and resist the perpetual momentum for warfare. Also, do not respond to this message saying military action is required to keep nuclear arms out of the hands of rogue groups. Pakistan has had the bomb for a while with no incident. That excuse is a vacuous scare tactic used to manipulate the American populace. In short, if Israel wants to start a war, let them but do NOT support them for any acts of unjustified aggression. The US does support allies, but every alliance has its limits. Thank you, [REDACTED] P.S. You can assume my stance on Syria is similar. Unless there is world wide agreement, we have no business attacking the country. I agree the situation is dire, but the US is not obligated to play the hero. There are many other nations of the world that can help. Update (2012.03.09): President Obama responded to the letter with a generic canned response.
Not only is the parasite toxoplasma gondii bad for pregnant women, but it is possibly bad for everyone by changing mental behavior and even increasing the risk of schizophrenia and suicide. That's some serious findings and makes you wonder how long it takes for symptoms to appear. Is it similar to Mad Cow, which doesn't surface until 10 years after exposure? Scary stuff.
"The subjects who tested positive for the parasite had significantly delayed reaction times. Flegr was especially surprised to learn, though, that the protozoan appeared to cause many sex-specific changes in personality. Compared with uninfected men, males who had the parasite were more introverted, suspicious, oblivious to other people’s opinions of them, and inclined to disregard rules. Infected women, on the other hand, presented in exactly the opposite way: they were more outgoing, trusting, image-conscious, and rule-abiding than uninfected women."The AtlanticSo, it makes you wonder if those crazy cat ladies (that own more than 5 cats) are nuts before owning the first cat.... or if they are victims to the parasite, making them get more and more felines? It's a chicken or the egg problem... -- Read more about the research Jaroslav Flegr has been doing at Pregue's Charles University at the Atlantic. via BoingBoing.
It took me about 18 days to discover that Amazon changed the Product Advertising API by adding a new requirement to each request. Poptoken.com was down for a long time. Embarrassing. After digging this error popped up:
"Your request is missing required parameters. Required parameters include AssociateTag."AssociateTag... hmm.... After more sleuthing I determined what the Associate Tag (aka Associate ID) is. It is the generated account name linked to your Product Advertising API. So, once you sign in, you'll see on the page "Signed in as" with a name below it. That is your Associate Tag. In many cases your Associate Tag will be the same as your Tracking ID. To get things working again, just put an "AssociateTag" parameter in your aws request before signing it. Now you can send music songs and mp3's to friends as a gift with PopToken.
It appears an evil genius was trying to pull off the perfect murder by planting bottles containing radioactive material under an arch-nemesis' home in Tokyo... Then that pesky tsunami uncovered the plan. Read "Radiation hotspot in Tokyo linked to mystery bottles"
The real Superhero Phoenix Jones was arrested in Seattle for what appears to be breaking up a fight. See the footage below:
- Initial fight between the men of the group (there's some guy with his cell phone out filming it too).
- Phoenix spraying pepper spray to break up the fight.
- The stupid women attacking with high heel shoes.
- People throwing bottles at a car.

Recently there has been an uproar over Facebook's recent behavior of stealing contact phone numbers from people's smart phones. Most articles try to downplay the ramifications and call the news "a rumor" or "a recent meme."This would be fine if Facebook posted a dialog notifying the user what they are doing and forcing the user to accept before using the Facebook application. This is the case on the iPhone, so Facebook hasn't broken any laws there. However, the situation on Android is different and Facebook clearly acted illegally. Facebook took the contact numbers without notifying the phone user. The user doesn't even need to run the Facebook application for Facebook to take your information. This is exactly what spyware does. Spyware and many Trojans want to collect contact information like email addresses to they can sell the information to spam houses with flood mailboxes with messages about Viagra or Nigerian scams. Facebook is just the same. Facebook needs to grow its user base. So, it felt it was okay to steal people's contacts. They want to get the information of your friends not yet on Facebook so they can try to bring them into the fold. This is clearly data theft! Here is a letter I sent to Sprint since they are also on the hook for this. I suggest you do the same:
Facebook stole my contact phone numbers off my HTC Evo phone (and my wife's phone) with out notifying us. This is data theft and is illegal.http://www.pcworld.com/article/237940/facebooks_phonebook_fiasco.htmlIf you haven't noticed, this behavior is grounds for a lawsuit. Both Sprint and Facebook should be sweating over this. Not only that, I cannot remove the Facebook application from my phone due to Sprint's restrictions and HTC Sense. I would have to root my phone and void my warranty to do so. Since Sprint put Facebook on my phone and I am unable to remove the application from my phone, Sprint is partly to blame for the data theft. What are you, Sprint, going to do about this? This is a very serious issue. Reference:
